Events around the world
The International Men's Health Week, held from June 9—15 2003, was focused on issues related to men's health. This was the first time the event had been synchronized in a global fashion. This short and, as they put it, 'certainly not complete' round the world round-up comes from the International Society of Men's Health (ISMH).
Australia
International Men's Health Week was celebrated in a number of ways in Australia. The Men's Health Information and Resource Centre, at the University of Western Sydney, coordinated the week in the state of New South Wales (NSW), and developed a website to provide information about the week: www.menshealthweekaustralia.org.
Hunter Area Health Service in Newcastle used the week to consult with local men and service providers to develop their men's health plan. The Urological Cancer Organisation held a one-day forum "On the Ball" to discuss issues around cancer of the testes. The forum brought together clinicians and survivors of testes cancer.
A free post card celebrating International Men's Health Week was also available through pubs, clubs, cafes, hotels, cinemas and theatres in Sydney and regional centers in NSW.
Austria
In Vienna, a series of events was organized under the umbrella of ISMH (International Society for Men's Health) during the Men's Health Week. Its motto: "Give Men a Chance!"
The International Men's Health Week was launched with a press conference. The media (radio, TV, papers) gave this topic very good exposure.
Several hospitals participated in this Week by offering free check-ups for men, e.g. bone-density-check-ups as well as free consulting hours, lectures, etc. "MEN" (Men's Health Center) based at the Kaiser Franz Josef-Hospital in Vienna went out with information stalls to one of Vienna's most frequented pedestrian zones, which proved to be a huge success.
Good food is always a hot topic in Austria: About 50 restaurants in Vienna offered healthy food during this week.
While this year, the majority of events took place in Vienna, for the International Men's Health Week 2004, the ISMH will try to extend the pertinent activities throughoutAustriain order to further create awareness for issues of men's health.

USA
In the U.S., the Men's Health Network created a web site which provides links to some of the participating organizations: www.menshealthweek.org/imhw/imhw.htm
The abundance of events in celebration of National Men's Health Week included among many others Congressional Men's Health Screenings, workplace health events (a large number of companies used this occasion to announce these events during the remainder of the year), and many more.
