Tubby or not tubby? Fat is the question

Men's Health Week 2005 is all about men and weight.

What's your weight like? Too high? Too low? Not in the right place? Just right? How we feel about our weight depends a lot on how we feel about our body in general and about ourselves. If you want to do something about your weight, this month malehealth can help you.

Five facts about men and weight:

  • Unless we change our behaviour, three quarters of men will be overweight in five years time (2010)
  • Obese men are 33% more likely to die from cancer than men of healthy weight.
  • A man who is two stone overweight is twice as likely to have a heart attack as a man of healthy weight.
  • Men with a waist circumference above 1m (39 inches) or more have considerably increased health risks than those below.
  • Eating just 50 kcals (equivalent to a digestive biscuit) a day more than you burn off will see you put on 2kg a year. The body slows down as you get older making this increasingly easy to do.
